What is the GallantWEB™?

The GallantWEB is a server appliance that provides multiple functionalities from virus protection, virtual private network, email hosting to firewall, Web hosting, routing, file sharing and much more. What is new about the GallantWEB GW400?

The GallantWEB GW400 is the latest member of our GallantWEB product line. The new features include GallantSentry Anti-Virus service, IPSec VPN, PPTP VPN, Remote Email service, Web-based Email service, Remote Administration, Secure Shell and more.

What is in the GallantWEB (hardware)?

The GallantWEB itself is a custom designed unit based on Intel PC architecture. The GallantWEB is power by an Intel Celeron 633 processor on Intel 810E motherboard and comes with 64MB SDRAM with a capacity of 10GB IDE based hard drive. Since all components inside the GallantWEB are based on industry standards, it opens up to all upgrades options available in the market.

What software runs on the GallantWEB?

The current version of the GallantWEB is based on Redhat 6.2 Linux Operating System while the version 1.xx and 2.xx of GallantWEB are based on FreeBSD UNIX Operating System.

How to set up the GallantWEB for the very first time?

Depending on the type of Internet connection that you have, the setup process might vary from one to another. With the GallantWIZARD Web-based Graphic User Interface, we provide you an easy and user friendly interface to help you through the configuration process. How to set up my domain?

How do I publish my Web site?

The GallantWEB support web publishing through Frontpage 2000 or FTP. You can refer to http://www.gallantry.com/support/pdf/setup_web.pdf for complete instruction.

What login name and password should I use?

By default the domain that you created in owned by the webmaster user, and for security reasons, the password for the webmaster is unknown, you need to first change the webmaster through the GallantWIZARD before you try to publish your Web pages. Refer http://www.gallantry.com/support/docs/gw400_quick_start.html#s83 on how to change the user's password on the GallantWEB.

Where are my html documents?

The html documents for your primary domain are usually located on the /home/webmaster/ftpdocs/*domainname*/www/htdocs/ folder in your GallantWEB. Other domains you added onto the GallantWEB (multiple domains) arelocated at /home/*username*/ftpdocs/*domainname*/www/htdocs/ . (*username* is the domain administrator that you assigned to when you create the domain, you are unable to change the domain administrator without first deleting the domain.)

How do I set up my email?

What type of email service I can use?

What is DNS?

DNS is short for Domain Name Service, basically is it an Internet service that translate an easy to remember domain name into the IP address of the server.

Where should I register my domain?

You can register your domain name with Network Solutions or any Domain Registrar available in your area.

Who is hosting my DNS?

Theoretically, you can host your own DNS on your GallantWEB but according to regulations, you need at least two DNS servers running 24/7 to provide DNS service. You can however host your DNS on third party servers and have them pointing your domain to your GallantWEB. Gallantry does provide the DNS hosting for our customers. What is VPN?

VPN is short for Virtual Private Network, where it allows an authorized user to connect to your network from anywhere via Internet using an encryption technology. VPN would allow users to work from anywhere and have access to the resources on your Local Area Network as if he or she were in the office.

What types of VPN are available on GallantWEB?

The GallantWEB provide two types of VPN service base on IPSec protocol and PPTP protocol (Microsoft VPN).

How many users can access the GallantWEB VPN at the same time?

The number of user is limited only by the Internet bandwidth that you have and the IP address range you have, the GallantWEB itself do not constraint the number of users.

Is the GallantWEB VPN compatible to my existing XXXX VPN infrastructure?

The GallantWEB have not been fully tested against all VPN solutions in the market. We are constantly working on the compatibility verification but we can help you if you send us an email at support@gallantry.com.

How do I set up VPN for my traveling employees?

For traveling employees, we would suggest PPTP VPN service. Refer to http://www.gallantry.com/support/docs/gw400_quick_start.html#s134 for details.

How do it set up VPN to link my remote office to my main office?

We suggest that you have two GallantWEBs on both offices to utilize the IPSec VPN. The instruction is available at http://www.gallantry.com/support/docs/gw400_quick_start.html#s132.


How do I set up file sharing on my office LAN?

How to I set up FTP service?

Each user on the GallantWEB is given FTP access based on their user name and password. You can control the FTP service from the GallantWIZARD (Service Selection) itself to determine the level of FTP service that you want.

What is a firewall?

Firewall is a service that blocks unauthorized traffic from going to or coming out of a networked machine.

How does GallantWEB's firewall work?

The GallantWEB firewall is a passive firewall based of packet filtering and IP blocking techniques. Some applications that require a dynamic connectivity may not work with the GallantWEB firewall.

I have a Web/email server behind the GallantWEB server, how to I configure the GallantWEB to work with my server(s)?

You can redirect the specific traffic using the NAT service on the GallantWEB. You can refer to http://www.gallantry.com/support/docs/gw400_quick_start.html#s14 for a complete reference.

How can I do remote administration?

You can remotely configure and control the GallantWEB via the GallantWIZARD through a SSL encrypted session. Refer to http://www.gallantry.com/support/docs/gw400_quick_start.html#s12 for details. The GallantWEB also provides Secured Shell (SSH) for more advanced users to manipulate the GallantWEB.

Where can I find the system log files?

The GallantWEB system log files are located at /var/log/ folder, all log files are automatically rotated and kept on the system for seven days.

What is the GallantSentry?

GallantSentry is an anti-virus service provided through the GallantWEB. It provides email protections to all emails to our subscribers with multiple anti-virus software that are constantly updated.

How does GallantSentry work?

The GallantSentry works in a way that is invisible to the subscribers by redirecting all incoming email through anti-virus servers and then provides the safe/cleaned email to the recipient. Once a virus is caught, our anti-virus software cleans or contains the virus and gives the sender and recipient an alert.

What anti-virus engines used by GallantSentry?

The anti-virus software includes Trend Micro's Interscan Viruswall, McAfee's VirusScan, Symantec's Norton Anti-Virus for Gateway and Sophos' Sweep.

How to I configure the GallantSentry Service?

You need to enroll in the GallantSentry Service at http://www.gallantsentry.com/ and follow the instructions at http://www.gallantry.com/support/docs/gw400_quick_start.html#s57 to enable the GallantSentry Service.
